The National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) University of Law, established in the year 1998, is the second National Law University established in India.

With students admitted from all over the country through CLAT, NALSAR is counted as one of the top National Law University in India.

It constantly features among the top two National Law Universities in any rankings conducted in the field of Legal education.

Until 2012, NALSAR was driven by mandatory courses, but post-re-evaluation in June 2012, it moved to a credit-based system, wherein a student is required to earn 200 credit points to earn their degree.

Undergraduate: In order to secure a seat in B.A LL.B program at NALSAR University of Law, one must fulfill the following conditions as laid down by CLAT. The candidates must have secured:

Forty-five percent (45%) marks in case of candidates belonging to Unreserved/OBC/Specially Abled Persons (SAP) and other categories, and

Forty Percent (40%) marks in case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) categories.

There is no age limit.


B.A. L.L.B (Hons.): NALSAR admits a total of 120 students every year for the undergraduate program, out of which 15 seats are reserved for Foreign Nationals( 7 for students from SAARC countries and 8 from Non-SAARC nations).

LL.M: A total of 60 students are admitted to the Master’s program in Law, 10 of which are foreign nationals.

Admission Process:

National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) University of Law, Hyderabad offers law programmes to aspirants at the undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG) and doctorate (Ph.D.) level. Apart from this, NALSAR also offers an MBA programme with specialization in Court Management, Corporate Governance, Innovation & Sustainability Management and Financial Services and Capital Markets.

NALSAR University of Law has a distance education wing called NALSAR Proximate Education (NALSAR Pro) which offers Post Graduate Diploma programmes in Cyber Laws, Patents Law, Media Laws, and International Humanitarian Law.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria for UG & PG Courses

Candidates are eligible to secure admission in UG courses offered at NALSAR University of Law if they have passed their Higher Secondary School Examination or equivalent exam with at least 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC/ST category aspirants) from a recognized board.

NALSAR University of Law’s eligibility criteria for PG course is such that candidates should have secured minimum 50% marks or equivalent grade in their UG level law course.
