National Law University (NLU), Delhi was established with the objective of promoting cultural, legal and ethical values with a view to promote and foster the rule of law and the objectives enshrined in the Constitution of India.

NLU Delhi is one of the elite national law schools in India built on the 5-year law degree model proposed and implemented by the Bar Council of India (BCI).

The University was established by Dr. Ranbir Singh in the year 2008. It is also approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Admission to NLU Courses is based on All India Law Entrance Test Score.

NLUD offers a five-year undergraduate (UG) B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) program. Seventy seats are offered and ten additional seats are allocated to foreign nationals.

The undergraduate program is based on a credits system with additional seminar courses for further learning, pursuant according to the interests of the students.

The program consists of approximately fifty subjects to be studied over the duration of ten semesters, with five subjects in each semester.

Students are expected to submit fifty research projects before their graduation. The curriculum remains intensive and has led to concerns being brought about stress levels amongst the students.

Admissions to the undergraduate (UG) B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) program are conducted through the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET), a test conducted every year by NLUD.

NLUD does not utilize the Common Law Admission Test like other National Law Universities do.

NLU is built on the 5-year law degree model proposed and implemented by the Bar Council of India (BCI).

NLU Delhi offers various courses like 5-year integrated course B.A. LL.B. program, 2-year Master course in LLM, PG Diploma as well as certificate and Diploma programs affiliated to UGC and Bar Council of India. University also offers a Ph.D. program in multiple specializations. Admission to these courses is based on the scores in AILET. There is a facility of two-year/one-year bridge course based on LL.B. Degree.

  • Candidates who aspire to take admission in B.A. LL.B. must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with not less than 50% marks.
  • Admission to the first year of 5-year B.A. LL.B., other than for Foreign Nationals, is made based on the merit in AILET entrance exam.
  • The admission criteria for foreign nationals is securing at least 65% marks in the 10+2 examination of the system or equivalent.
  • Applicants to LLM course must score minimum of 55% marks (50% marks by SC/ST/Persons with disability) in LL.B. exam or equivalent degree.
  • Foreign nationals must score at least 55% marks in LL.B. degree recognized by Association of India Universities.
  • The assessment of communication skills of foreign national will be based on written and spoken English performance at the interview in terms of aptitude and capacity.
  • Admission of Indian candidates to LLM is based on AILET entrance followed by interview.
  • Admission to Ph.D. program shall be based on merit in written test conducted by the University and qualifying exam.
  • Candidates who have qualified UGC Net/ JRF/ SLET and M.Phil.  are exempted from sitting in a written test.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Have passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10 +2) system or an equivalent examination thereto securing in the aggregate not less than 50% of the total marks. The eligibility condition for admission of students under the Foreign Nationals Category shall be 65% marks in the Higher Secondary School Examination of (10+2) system or an equivalent examination.
  • Be less than 20 years of age on the First day of July of the year of admission. However, in cases of SC candidates, the maximum age limit shall be 22 years as on the above date.

ADMISSION GUIDELINES

The selection shall be strictly on the basis of merit as determined by the Entrance Test subject to reservation of 15% (11 seats) for Scheduled Caste candidates, 7.5% (5 seats) for Scheduled Tribe candidates, 3% (2 seats) for Persons with Disability one seat for Kashmiri Migrants and 2 seats out of the 71 seats to be filled through Entrance Examination.

National Law University – B.A. LL.B. Admissions 2019

Candidates who aspire to take admission in B.A. LL.B. must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with not less than 50% marks from a recognized organization. Admission to the first year of 5-year B.A. LL.B. is made based on the merit in national level AILET entrance exam. Applicants must secure at least 40% marks (30% marks for SC/ST) to be eligible for admissions.

The admission criteria for foreign nationals is securing at least 65% marks in the 10+2 examination of the system or equivalent. Their admission will be based on prescribed academic qualification. There is no compulsion for foreign nationals to appear in AILET exam.

Key points:

Interview of qualified candidates will be held on July 28 and July 29th.

Candidates will have to score a minimum of 40% marks (30% marks for SC/ST candidates) in AILET entrance exam to be eligible for admission.

The entrance examination fee is INR 3000/- for general category, INR 1000/- for SC/ST and a person with the disability. There is no fee for SC/ST below poverty line candidates.

If there are two or more candidates secure equal marks, the merit will be prepared considering their 10+2 marks as well.

There are 81 seats available for students of B.A. LL.B. 10 seats are reserved for foreign students.

Out of 71 seats, 15% seats are reserved for SC candidates, 7.5% seats for ST and 3% seats for a person with the disability and one seat for Kashmiri Migrant.

The 30% horizontal reserved seats will be filled by eligible female candidates.

The unfilled seats will be filled by general category if remains vacant.

Candidate must be less than 21 years in age on July 1st of the year of admission and the age limit for SC/ST is 23 years.

Applicants who are appearing in the final examination of the qualifying exam may also apply for the admission given the condition that they produce the result card as proof of qualifying the exam at the time of admission.

Admission to foreign national candidates will be given on the basis of prescribed academic qualification.

Foreign national applicants are exempted from appearing in AILET.

The admission fees for candidates from SAARC countries shall be 5,000 US dollars while it is 10,000 US dollars for candidates from other countries.

Selected candidates will be intimated by the college authority through the official website or email, SMS, etc. and stipulated time will be provided to them for admission.

National Law University – LLM Admissions 2019

NLU offers 2-years higher education in Law through LLM course. Applicants to LLM program must score a minimum of 55% marks (50% marks by SC/ST/Persons with disability) in LL.B. exam or equivalent degree.

Admission to the LLM course is based on the AILET entrance exam followed by an interview.

Foreign nationals must score at least 55% marks in LL.B. degree recognized by Association of India Universities.

The assessment of communication skills of foreign national will be based on written and spoken English performance at the interview in terms of aptitude and capacity.

 Candidates with having results awaited too can apply for a course on the condition of producing the proof of passing the exam at the time of admission.

There is an availability of the total number of 20 seats in LLM course and 160 seats in LLM Pro.

Out of 20 seats, 75% seats for general, 15% seats are reserved for SC, 7.5% seats for ST and 2.5% seats are reserved for persons with disability.

Other 5 seats are reserved for foreign nationals, for the candidates who have citizenship of a country other than India.

Foreign national need not to appear in the entrance exam.
